Ukiah, California homeowners Cindy and Kevin loved living in Northern California. The small town, with a population of roughly 16,000 people, is also the largest city in Mendocino County. “We loved being surrounded by the redwoods!” Kevin exclaimed. “We really enjoyed the small town feel, while also being close to nature.”
Recently, out of a desire to be closer to their seven grandchildren, the couple decided to relocate to Arizona. They wanted to find a small town surrounded by nature, much like the area they were leaving. They found their new home in the small town of Payson. “We were excited to find a beautiful place in the mountains that had a similar community feel as Ukiah. And our backyard backs up to the Tonto National Forest—a nearly 3-million-acre national reserve.”
The new home, while perfect for their needs, had an old deck that needed replacing. “There are many choices when it comes to decking materials, but we wanted redwood,” Kevin explained. “We prefer the natural beauty of redwood to other materials that are man-made.”
Using Construction Common redwood deck boards and railings for their new deck, the couple now have a beautiful outdoor space that they and their grandchildren can enjoy for years to come. Construction Common is an economical redwood grade that works best in above ground applications such as deck boards and railings. Redwood also resists warping and splitting and stays comfortable to bare feet even on the hottest, sunniest days.
Sourced from nearly 230,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C013133) timberlands in Mendocino County, Mendocino Redwood lumber products are available at The Home Depot stores in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, and a few other Western states. All products are milled in Ukiah, California—Cindy and Kevin’s former hometown.
“We wanted a deck made with Mendocino Redwood. It looks beautiful, and it’s nice to have a little bit of Northern California and Mendocino County in our backyard here in Arizona!”
